    GONE TO HIS REWARD
Saturday afternoon, October 7, 1922, was an eventful period in our little city and country surrounding it because it marked the passing of our oldest citizen, one who was known to all, who was honored and loved by all. About 2 o'clock the news came that the fine old pioneer had laid life's armor aside and entered into eternal rest. ...James M. Williamson, to whose memory these simple lines are lovingly given was born in Elbert County, GA., January 15, 1832. He was reared in Paulding County, GA and spent a short time in Cobb County of the same state where he attended school six months, the only schooling he received. Not fired with a desire for an education, he ran away from school to come to Texas, which he did in 1851, his party starting in October and reaching Texas in December, being on the road more than two months. In the caravan were several ox wagons and one carriage, in which some of the women and children traveled. The subject of this sketch first settled at Gilbert's mill near Bonham, but in April, 1952, he settled two miles north of Honey Grove, in what is now known as the Lone Star community. On March 7, 1857, Mr. Williamson was married to Miss Rathey Melvina Gober, at what is now known as Gober, but was then called Gritterville. To this union thirteen children were born, six of whom survive. There are seventeen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren now living. The surviving children are W. A. Williamson, of Oklahoma City, Mrs. Joe Parrish of Honey Grove, T. F. Williamson of Honey Grove, F. P. Williamson of San Antonio, Mrs. P. A. Bywaters of Dallas and Miss Effie Williamson of Honey Grove.
